Three Legged Race - Wrong Element A veteran of the mid-American noise underground, Robert Beatty has in the last few years steered his drone-smeared Three Legged Race project towards beats. But in contrast to Container, whose style evolved in relative isolation to the techno scene, the three well-crafted tracks comprising Wrong Element are clearly the work of a musician who keeps abreast of current developments in electronic dance music. Despite a tempo that's more troglodyte stomp than dance floor swift, "Dr. Wrong Element" pivots on a muscular minimalism (taut thump grafted to stinging synth swirl) that doesn't feel far removed from Luke Slater's Planetary Assault Systems output, or the Blueprint catalog for that matter. The following cut, a slow-sizzler titled "Solid, Liquid Or Daughter," boasts a similar sonic palette.

Robert Beatty, performing as Three Legged Race, is not one of the coasters. There are plenty of tickling, familiar tones on his new 12-inch EP, but they decorate and serve a minimal, droning bass thump that’s almost noble in its insistence. I guess it could be described as a new take on proto-techno, but there’s a modern flavor to it all that melds with a definite analog vibe and escapes clear categorization.
The Three Legged Race has been played on NTS in shows including Awkward Movements, featured first on 18 March 2013. Songs played include Quartz Crisis (Three Legged Race Tar Pit Mix), Budgeting Air and China Bull. Robert Beatty, who may be better known as a member of Hair Police, Eyes And Arms of Smoke & a contributor to Burning Star Core, has been creating some of his most interesting material under the name Three Legged Race.
Rocky Schenck photographed a three-legged dog for the album cover at a playground near downtown Los Angeles on August 23, 1995. Schenck did a casting for three-legged dogs for the shoot, but the band ended up choosing a fax with the image of a three-legged dog as the cover art because they thought it looked grittier and Staley. and Cantrell liked it better. Cantrell has stated that Kinney was pissed about that because they spent money for the photoshoot and did not use it for the album cover
