From September 2004 through April 2005, she composed fourteen tracks spanning from lo-fi guitar-driven to high-gloss produced tracks. Much like her debut album, Exile in Guyville, Somebody's Miracle was originally modeled after another canonical album, Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder, though only elements of this exist in the final product

Somebody's Miracle is mostly generic pap that any number of next-big-has-beens could have cranked out, a useless piece of plastic poking a pointy heel in the eye of the carcass of the artist Liz once was. Sound familiar? I know I may be in the minority 'round these parts, but I actually like Liz's 2003 self-titled trainwreck. In hindsight, the . bomb was wasted on that album, because it's much better than Somebody's Miracle. The chief complaint about Liz Phair seemed to be that its rockers were sticky-sweet Matrix-pop at its best- cheesy, tacky, glamorous, and yes, radio- and MTV-friendly. People complain that "Extraordinary" and "Why Can't I" are Avril rip-offs, but now that we all agree "Since U Been Gone" is a masterpiece, maybe a few more people should rip off Avril.

With Somebody’s Miracle, Phair has either read too much of her own press, perhaps recognizing that she’d alienated almost the entirety of her existing fanbase, or has grossly misinterpreted the source of those minor-hit singles’ charms. Sacrificing the pitch correction technology on a set of songs that’s supposed to maintain some semblance of commercial momentum (to choose just one of the many flaws on the album) wasn’t the right move.

Love or hate her self-titled record, but at the bare minimum it was interesting. That's much more than can be said about Somebody's Miracle, which scrubs nearly all of Phair's personality clean in favor of by-the-numbers adult easy listening. No blunt sexuality, no bold instrumental choices, and no F-bombs (unless you count "Can't Get Out of What I'm Into," a re-recorded song from her Girlysound days that eclipses nearly everything here despite being billed as a "bonus.

Somebody's Miracle Album. Release Date October 4, 2005. Count On My Love. Everything (Between Us). Giving It All To You.

Somebody's Miracle is a bold ambitious collection of songs that embraces elements of her previous work and more. Pop and indie, frank and witty, playful and serious, Phair takes everything she's done before and pushes further. The new Liz Phair album, "Somebody's Miracle," is pretty interesting. It splits the difference between her older stuff and her self-titled CD a few years ago. It's polished, but at the level of her previous albums "Whip-Smart" and egg," not to the gleaming level of "Liz Phair.

Now that it's 2018 and the what is considered popular is horribly bad the once that was called the industry was turning into a cold corporation. Liz Phair came from a era that was the last of just hope called the 1990's or some of it seem to be new and interesting from the sterile 1980's. Liz made her last excellent album that was called White Chocolate Space Egg. 5 years later the whole industry changed before her eyes. And I can't imagine what she was witnessing. But things just shifted from a indie rock to commercial pop and 2003 was the year technology was changing and enhancing, Many of the a young woman artists at the time were younger than Liz but they warned Liz if she wanted to continue 10 years after her debut she was going to be completely controlled by capitol records and management I'm guessing with a dash of Liz.. And as others from her era were gone or struggling with their independence and really underground at thus point. Liz went and tried to be commercial in Liz fashion. And basically failed. And after two albums she was thrown off Capitol and label less. But at least she was free as the industry became more and more disgusting which has not only become the current industry but there's no change in sight. Like robotic talent less sluts. But Liz years later now in her 50's she is free to do what she wants and sell out most of her concerts. She even made fun of the whole scene and future on her last non labeled CD called Fun Style. Poking fun of the whole thing. But that was 2010. Who knows if she will ever make another album. But now there are no real labels. So Liz won wirh her own success she can do any damn thing she wants now. And not be controlled by not one single person except maybe Brad Wood ( that's a good thing ) While the dribbling revolving dribbling one after another cookie cutters get lost in the shuffle.with absolutely no legacy just to be used till they dry up and get replaced.. Liz Phair and her 1990's colleagues came out as LEGENDS CONQUERED AND KICKED THEIR ASS.. Thank You for reading.

Jeez the song titles tell you enough. I'm afraid to even play this ... on CD.
