Just Before the Bullets Fly (1988). I'm No Angel is the fourth studio album by Gregg Allman, released on Epic Records in 1987. The album is particularly notable for the strength of its title song, which was later covered by others, including Cher, Gregg Allman's former wife.
Laid Back is the debut studio solo album by American singer-songwriter Gregg Allman, released in October 1973 by Capricorn Records. Allman, best known as the anist of the Allman Brothers Band, first began considering a solo career after internal disagreements with that group. He developed the album as a small creative outlet wherein he would assume full control, and he co-produced the album alongside Johnny Sandlin.
Organ, Lead Vocals – Gregg Allman. Percussion – Chaz Trippy. Producer, Engineer, Mixed By – Rodney Mills. 모. Issued with a lyric sheet.
Well you've got this jealous husband And I'm far too young to die I must move on away from here Just before the bullets fly. I've always been a gabler Takin' chances all my life. Always smashin' those love affairs Just like shootin' dice I staged the game girl That's what keeps me satisfied And I can leave it in the nick of time Just before the bullets fly. Solo. The stakes keep getting higher.
I'm No Angel was such a success that Gregg Allman wasted no time delivering its follow-up, 1988's Just Before the Bullets Fly. Essentially, the album is I'm No Angel, Pt. 2, with the same glossy mixes and straight-ahead rock & roll. This isn't a bad thing, in theory, and the execution is solid. It's just that the songs aren't there. There are a couple of moments that work - namely, the opening punch of "Demons" and "Before the Bullets Fly" - but most of the tunes aren't terribly memorable, and the ultra-slick production doesn't.
I'm No Angel was originally released in 1986, and was his first solo album since 1977's Playing of the Storm and produced a top 50 single hit with the title track. The album went on to sell over half a million copies, and went on to renewed interest in Allman. Just Before the Bullets Fly was the follow up released in 1988. The title track was a co-write with Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes.
His best solo album, in my opinion, with strong material and the band performing at their peak. Dan Toler’s emotional guitar playing and unique sound are a highlight that I feel should have made this album more successful. The Allman Brothers Band would reunite the following year for a summer tour to celebrate their twentieth anniversary. Gregg Allman – Lead vocals & Hammond B-3 organ Dangerous Dan Toler – Lead guitars & keyboards on Night Games Tim Heding – Keyboards & background vocals Bruce Waibel – Bass & background vocals David Frankie Toler – Drums Chaz Trippy – Percussion. I hate to leave you, baby, but I just can't waste my time You've got this jealous husband and I'm too, too young to die I gotta move on away from 'round here just before the bullets fly.
