Carnivore is the first studio album by the crossover thrash band Carnivore. It was released in 1985 through Roadrunner Records. The album was first released on CD in 1990 in original form, and again in 1991 without track 5 but with most of the songs from the 1987 Retaliation album. It was reissued on January 23, 2001, with an addition of three bonus demo tracks and with a different album cover. These songs would be officially recorded later to appear on their next album.
Greetings and felicitations, children of technology! Ah! Drool dripping out, my tongue hanging south Saliva flowing free My eyes full of lust, my balls gonna bust Give yourself to me Thirst I can't quench, c'mere, you wench There's something I need! Carnivore - I'm a meat eater Carnivore - I'd like to meet ya Carnivore - I know I'll reach ya Carnivore.
Carnivore's first album is honestly a milestone in the history and it kicks ass. Carnivore is one of those bands who make real thrash from the east cost. The east coast sounds more like crossover and a little bit hardcore. So the first song from Carnivore is 'Predator'. The Intro from 'Predator' is very cool beacuse it remind's me of the Vietnam war in the 6o's because you hear helicopters. Predator' is one of those songs that really thrash and it sounds like the old Metallica back in the early 80's. The lyrics are about the nuclear winter. And at last I say this album is a MUST-HAVE for everyone that wants to know more about the band from Peter Steele before Typ O Negative.

Carnivore released their self-titled debut album Carnivore in November 1985. For this album, the band spelled their names in what they thought were "exotic" ways, Petrus T. Steele and Louie Beateaux. The band often dressed as warriors in torn clothing and spikes attached to hockey gear during their live shows at this period. Keith Alexander left the band in 1986 because he wasn't interested in the crossover direction the band was going. He was replaced by Marc Piovanetti, who later joined Crumbsuckers. In September 1987 they released their second album, Retaliation.

Carnivore's thrash-centric first album was the general public's first introduction to larger-than-life vocalist/bassist Pete Steele, and even though Type O Negative's epic brand of gothic metal was still just a glimmer in his eye, in retrospect one can already recognize the fascinating range of creative contradictions that would always characterize the 6'7" man-mountain's.
