Beethoven Ludwig Van - Klavierkonzert N. C-moll O. 7 - 2 Piano. By Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). For Piano, Orchestra. Breitkopf Full Scores. Klavierkonzert Nr. 3 c-moll o. 7 2 Pianos, 4 hands Breitkopf & Härtel. 37 Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 is the only concerto where no authentic manuscript exists for the solo part.

The Piano Concerto No. 37, was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1800 and was first performed on 5 April 1803, with the composer as soloist. The year for which the concerto was composed (1800) has however been questioned by contemporary musicologists. It was published in 1804. During that same performance, the Second Symphony and the oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives were also premiered. The composition was dedicated to Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia.

Ludwig van Beethoven. Description by Roger Dettmer. The model for this startlingly dramatic concerto was Mozart's C minor (K. 491), which Beethoven played in public concerts. But "model" does not mean he merely imitated; indeed, the orchestra's traditional first exposition is so extensively developed that the soloist's repetition risks sounding anticlimactic particularly the role of the piano after the cade.

The accompanying work, the Piano Concerto No. 37 (which opens the program), isn't quite as successful under Eschenbach, Maestro Hans Henze, and the London Symphony Orchestra, although DG's more robust recorded sound makes it seem more involved than it i. 37, was made in 1971 with the London Symphony Orchestra during one of the orchestra's glorious periods. Unfortunately, though, the conductor is the eminent composer Hans Werner Henze, not a particularly noted conductor, whose approach to the concerto is rather stolid. He draws out the tempi of the lyrical passages of the score enough that they often lose their forward impetus; this is particularly true in the usually magical second movement, the one in which Beethoven broke the classical mold by putting it in the distant key of E Major in a work otherwise in C Minor.

LIVE FROM JAPAN ~ 2005 Lang Lang piano ~ Christoph Eshenbach conducting the Cleveland Orchestra  . Lang Lang plays Beethoven;s 4th piano concerto in a live concert from Japan in 2005. The Chinese pianist, considered now the superstar of classical pianists is, in fact, an intensely musical performer and technician to listen to and watch.
