The Age of Consent is the debut album by synthpop band Bronski Beat (Steve Bronski, Larry Steinbachek and Jimmy Somerville), released on London Records on 15 October 1984. This was the only album released by the band to feature Somerville, who departed the band in 1985. By 1984, many European countries had reduced the age of consent for homosexual acts to 16, but it remained at 21 in the United Kingdom, having only been partially decriminalised in 1967.

Bronski Beat were standard-bearers for these causes, speaking out in interviews, performing at benefits, and listing international ages of consent in their record’s liner notes to show how backwards Britain was. But they were far less successful at putting them into song on the rest of the album, where they seemed to forget the personal intimacy that gave their singles such insurrectionist stake, opting instead for some surprisingly bland sloganeering. The Age of Consent was released in the UK on October 15, 1984, and would be their only album to feature the original line-up. An unexplained fallout led Somerville to leave the band in early 1985 and form the Communards with Richard Coles.

33 years after their debut album, Bronski Beat return, as founding member Steve Bronski teams up with singer Stephen Granville for an expanded reworking of The Age Of Consent. The latter is a tribute to the recently murdered Brazilian transexual Dandara dos Santos.
