Cabaret Voltaire are an English music group formed in Sheffield in 1973 and initially composed of Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk, and Chris Watson. The group was named after the Cabaret Voltaire, the Zürich nightclub that served as a centre for the early Dada movement.

Cabaret Voltaire, a celebration of jiggery pokery spanning two floors and making the arduous journey down the steep hill of Blair St a worthwhile venture. This is Cabaret Voltaire, a local arts and music institution in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. We specialize in music. Live music, dance music but most importantly: loud music.
The album is one of Cabaret Voltaire’s best, with the track Animation creating an avant-garde icestorm of gothic jazz-funk, and the track Why Kill Time (When You Can Kill Yourself) holding a black mirror to the sounds emerging from the burgeoning New-Wave.
