Inside the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado, scientists keep an eye on the Sun. The GOES satellites send images that show activity on the Sun's surface that means a flare or eruption may be about to happen. If bad space weather is on the way, the pigeon race is postponed. The blasts of charged solar particles can cause a lot of damage to these technologies, and cause injury to humans in space. This instrument on the new GOES-R satellite is called the Extreme Ultraviolet and X-ray Irradiance Sensors, or EXIS. It will monitor solar flares that can cause problems with power grids, communication satellites, and pigeon races. This instrument on the new GOES-R satellite is called the Solar Ultraviolet Imager, or SUVI. It will monitor the Sun and give us early warning of bad space weather coming our way.
The sketch, in concept, is essentially a parody of Star Trek, Lost in Space and other space operas of the 1960s and 70s. Pigs in Space first appeared on The Muppet Show during the second season. The recurring sketch became a popular part of the series, appearing in 32 episodes over four seasons
The growth of plants in outer space has elicited much scientific interest. In the late 20th and 21st century, plants were often taken into space in low Earth orbit to be grown in a weightless but pressurized controlled environment, sometimes called space gardens. In the context of human spaceflight, they can be consumed as food and/or provide a refreshing atmosphere. Plants can metabolize carbon dioxide in the air to produce valuable oxygen, and can help control cabin humidity.
Album: Come Key Lyric: I've had dreams of us cuddling on the Planet Mars/Then when I wake up I'm all covered in sex. Implicitly, at least half of all Prince songs are about some intersection of sex and cosmic adventure-one imagines his recording studio looks something like the cover of his album Planet Earth – but this track from the generally ignored 1994 album Come made the connection explicit.
