Beggars Banquet is the seventh British and ninth American studio album by English rock band The Rolling Stones. It was released in December 1968 by Decca Records in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States. The album marked a change in direction for the band following the psychedelic pop of their previous two albums, Between the Buttons and Their Satanic Majesties Request.

The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet (1968).

Released in December 1968, Beggars Banquet followed The Stones' brief experiment with psychedelic rock in Their Satanic Majesties Request. The album is widely considered the band’s coming-of-age record with its return to bluesy, hard-edged Rock & Roll, created under the guidance of Producer Jimmy Miller. The album was a commercial success – landing the number 3 spot in the UK and 5th in the US. In his autobiography, Life, Keith Richards explains the mass appeal of the album: We knew that the Stones fans were digging i. ithout thinking about it, we knew that they’d love it. All we’ve.

500 Greatest Albums of All Time: The Rolling Stones, ‘Beggars Banquet’. In every album but one it seemed to me that they managed to feel the pulse of what was happening now and what was about to happen. The rest of the album is made up of largely conventional Stones styled songs. There are some mediocre ones among them, but then that’s part of the Stones. Consistency is not their bag.

The Stones forsook psychedelic experimentation to return to their blues roots on this celebrated album, which was immediately acclaimed as one of their landmark achievements. A strong acoustic Delta blues flavor colors much of the material, particularly "Salt of the Earth" and "No Expectations," which features some beautiful slide guitar work.

Beggars Banquet, the seventh studio album by The Stones, marked a return to the band’s R&B roots. Following the long sessions for the previous album Their Satanic Majesties Request in 1967 and the departure of producer and manager Andrew Loog Oldham, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards hired producer Jimmy Miller, the partnership proved to be a success and Miller would work with the band until 1973. Texan-born Miller had been working in the UK, producing artists like Traffic and The Spencer Davis Group, with whom he had co-written the song I’m A Man. Stones engineer Glyn Johns was aware of his. Beggars Banquet was to be Brian Jones’ last full album with the Rolling Stones; he had become so dysfunctional by the summer of 1969 that the band had to ask him to leave.

The Rolling Stones remain rightly proud of their album Beggars Banquet, which marked a return to their more classic sound after the previous psychedelic experimentation of Their Satanic Majesties Request. deadly claw
One of the most entertaining concept albums ever made, and the best Rolling Stones' album to my ear. It is full of songs about outcasts, beginning with the fallen angel Lucifer. The theme is reiterated with the misfit street fighting man, the lost soul of 'No Expectations', the prodigal son, the salt of the earth, the 'stray cat' girl with no way home. The factory girl whose knees are much to fat, the idiot country bumpkin of 'Dear Doctor'. Finally, Jagger throws himself and his whole band in the mix of ne'er do wells with 'Jigsaw Puzzle', relating of the time spent in jail in 1967 doing the puzzles to pass the time in stir. The only curious character is the Parachute Woman, and she sounds like a tramp Jagger has taken a fancy to. Every song is a gem, and the songs all possess the quality of sounding new even if heard again and again. Unlike certain tracks on the marvelous but a tad overrated 'Sgt. Pepper's'. In my subjective opinion, the Beatles were wonderful, but I get a bigger kick hearing so much more of the Stones' material. And 'Beggar's Banquet' still amazes me when I place it on the turntable.
This album kicks ass! The Rolling Stones set the bar, how high can you jump?
