The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time
I gotta say - this show is great! The crowd enthusiastically claps along with the beat during several numbers, and it spurs the Dead on to great heights of ensemble playing! This is indeed an awesome recording, especially for 1972 - it does need some work, though. so, I offer this excellent uncirculated speed-corrected version of this Grateful Dead show, sonic warts and all, for everyone to enjoy! If anyone would like to spend the time to clean it up a bit, that would be more than appreciated! Zeb 12-9-05.

Rivaling the spring of 1972 as the most-plundered season in the Grateful Dead's live catalog, the spring of 1977 found the Dead playing at their platonic best. To that end, the band's April 30th show at the Palladium - the first release in their downloads series, and the sixth extended release from the spring of 1977, including one box set - has an advantage on the much revered show recorded in Ithaca on May 8th: an actual open-ended jam. A 15-minute "Not Fade Away" veers into deep, melodic abstraction before languidly seguing into Garcia's heart-wrenching ballad "Stella Blue.
