Riding with the King is a blues album by Eric Clapton and . King that was released in 2000. It was their first collaborative album and won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. The album reached number one on Billboard's Top Blues Albums and was certified 2 Multi-Platinum in the United States. Riding with the King was also released on a DVD-Audio in higher resolution and with a . surround sound mix in 2000.
This first recorded pairing between the 74-year-old King and the 55-year-old Clapton was put together in the most obvious way: Clapton arranged the session using many of his regular musicians, picked the songs, and co-produced with his partner Simon Climie. That ought to mean that King would be a virtual guest star rather than earning a co-billing, but because of Clapton's respect for his elder, it nearly works the other way around.
Riding with the King was singer-songwriter John Hiatt's sixth album, released in 1983. It was his second of three albums with Geffen Records. The second side of the album was produced by Nick Lowe at Eden Studios in London with a group of crack pub rock musicians backing Hiatt.

I dreamed I had a good job and I got well paid I blew it all at the penny arcade A hundred dollars on a Kewpie doll I guess no pretty chick is going to make me crawl. Get on a TWA to the promised land Every woman, child and man Gets a Cadillac and a great big diamond ring Don't you know you're riding with the king?. He's on a mission of mercy to the new frontier He's going to check us all on out of here Up to that mansion on a hill Where you can.

King & Eric Clapton are two well known blues guitarists. The collaboration between these two blues legends is best known for the blues album "Riding with the King" which was released in 2000. Although Eric Clapton and . King had a 30-plus years friendship originating with a chance meeting and subsequent jam session at New York City's Café Au Go Go in 1967, the idea for a collaborative album only crystallized during the sessions for King's 1997 album Deuces Wild.

Riding With the King is the sound of two roosters scratching, crowing and strutting around the henhouse. King and Clapton whip up loads of crying guitar genius, like the licks they trade on Three O’Clock Blues and When My Heart Beats Like a Hammer. The pair also have a blast sharing the mic. King even gets his English protégé to unleash a Memphis growl in the midst of a soul-funk version of Sam & Dave’s Hold On! I’m Comin’. Slowhand never sounded so wild.
Every aspect of Riding With the King is as good as expected-the guitar playing is dazzling, King's voice is as warm, robust, and powerful as ever, and even the notoriously soft-voiced Clapton is able to leave his mark. The only thing that keeps this album from earning top marks is what the two artists have already accomplished in their long and impressive careers-while Riding With the King is a technically accomplished and very satisfying blues record, it simply cannot compete with classics like King's Live at the Regal or Clapton's Slowhand
