The discography of Pulp, an English Britpop band, consists of seven studio albums, 9 compilation albums, 2 live albums and 26 singles. They were formed in 1978 by Jarvis Cocker and had a continuously rotating band membership until the eleven years between 1991 and their hiatus on 15 December 2002, during which they were largely settled. They rose to prominence during the Britpop era in the early 1990s with their album His 'n' Hers (1994).
Wherever life takes restless, permanently questioning father-to-be Jarvis Cocker, ‘Hits’ remains true to Pulp‘s word; that even when they were looking back, their eyes were trained on the future. Common people? Hardly.
Pulp has suffered the twin misfortunes of releasing an era-defining pop hit in 1995's "Common People" and a boasting a gangly, instantly recognizable frontman in Jarvis Cocker who is better known than his songs. The years spent as an indie land produced some fine (and not-so-fine) songs. It's easy to forget just how brilliant the band can be, as witnessed by the shimmering, slow-burning beauty of "Last Day of the Miners' Strike.
Hits is a greatest hits collection by the English rock band Pulp, released in November 2002. As a collection, Hits only covers Pulp's singles from the early 1990s when they hit the mainstream, although the band had existed in one form or another since 1978. Mis-Shapes", from Different Class, is the only hit single not included here, apparently because the band cannot stand the song.

With this album, Pulp challenged their audience, and although album sales decreased dramatically, This Is Hardcore was a near-perfect record. The sardonic "Help the Aged" has Cocker facing his own mortality with his characteristic humor, as he sings, "If you look very hard behind the lines on their face, You may see where you are headed, And it's such a lonely place. With so many great songs to choose from over Pulp's last four albums, it's hard to make a definitive compilation that's guaranteed to please everyone, but they've done a good, albeit safe, job on Hits.
