Hungarian-British pianist Lili Kraus probably got closer to the ideal of balanced Mozart playing than any other musician, never succumbing to clockwork harmlessness or forced Beethoven pathos. Kraus' slender tone captures both the fine lines and the overarching structures, the lightness of touch and the moments of profundity. She recorded Mozart's sonatas twice, and both versions were a resounding success.
