The Very Best of Prince is a greatest hits album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on July 31, 2001 by Warner Bros. The album contains most of his commercially successful singles from 1979 to 1991 including the US number 1s "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "Kiss" and "Cream". The Very Best of Prince does not include the US number 1 hit "Batdance" most likely due to the licensing of the character Batman.
This album was not released, however, likely due to the Warner Bros. release of The Very Best Of Prince, and Prince even abandoned plans for a Summer tour, as he did not want to appear to be promoting the Warner Bros. A re-release was planned in the UK for 22 November 2010, using a new slipcover; this re-release did not take place, but the new slipcover has been included on digital releases of the album since this time. No singles were released to promote the album, but it has sold well consistently since its release
