Born in Jamaica, she moved when she was 13, along with her siblings, to live with her parents in Syracuse, New York. Muse is the third album by Grace Jones, and was released in 1979. It was the last album of her disco trilogy with Tom Moulton, which began in 1977 with debut Portfolio. The first side of the album is a continuous medley of four songs, joined by a narrative about someone who has sinned. The second side, however, consists of disco songs with no relation to one another. All album art, including the cover image, is by Richard Bernstein.
The album features a re-recorded version "I'll Find My Way to You", which Jones released three years prior to Muse. It was originally featured in a 1976 Italian movie Quelli della calibro 38 (international title: Colt 38 Special Squad) in which she played a club singer. The original version along with a song called "Again and Again" were included on a single produced by composer Stelvio Cipriani
A fine dance and club album, Grace Jones was still essentially a disco act when she recorded this at the end of the '70s. The campy tendencies and flat vocals were subordinated to the array of cross-rhythms, textures, and production devices buttressing the tracks. Jones did some outstanding numbers during this era, but seldom utilized her voice beyond either a decorative or supporting role. She wasn't (and still isn't) a soulful or great singer, but future albums would demonstrate that she could do more things than mouth lines and insert herself into rhythm tracks.
