Country Life is the fourth album by the English rock band Roxy Music, released in 1974 and reaching No. 3 in the UK charts. It also made No. 37 in the United States, their first record to crack the Top 40 there. The album is considered by many critics to be among the band's most sophisticated and consistent.
Roxy Music has always been an inherent pleasure for me, they’ve also forever managed to sound subversive, even within their most danceable tunes, as there’s an undefinable aspect to those lyrics that are impossible to dismiss, filled with dialog and injected subtleties that have me constantly looking over my shoulder saying, Did you hear that? Country Life is Brian Ferry’s Dolce Vita, a man about town steeped in character, a man steeped in self-absorption with his own music playing softly in the background as he conversationally says to himself of course, Ah, more champagne to lose this . .As a result, a later American album release of Country Life featured a different cover shot, where instead of Karoli and Grunwald posed in front of some trees, the reissue used a photo from the album's back cover that featured only the trees.
Roxy Music Format: Audio Cassette. IMO "Country Life" has three stellar songs, and the rest are all fine as album tracks, but are not of the same caliber. We start splendidly with "The Thrill of It All," a quintessential statement of Ferry-style hedonism. The album closes with the brilliant "Prairie Rose," co-authored by Ferry and guitarist Phil Manzanera. Perhaps it's generational but whenever I see cover art like this, a little part of me expects the music within to be shallow.

Country Life' also captures the final showing of the early Roxy style, . before funk and soul elements seeped into the mix more and more until the group gradually became a vehicle for front-man Ferry’s seductive crooner persona to run wild with romantic glimmer and enticing, silky soft rock tunes (something that would become fully realised with Roxy‘s final. More people need to hear some Roxy Music. Out of the Blue is a classic. Casanova is also a pure bliss.

Country Life is the fourth album by the English rock band Roxy Music, released in 1974 and reaching No. Band leader Bryan Ferry took the album's title from the British rural lifestyle magazine Country Life. In 2003, the album was ranked number 387 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. This success began with their debut album, Roxy Music (1972). The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music.
