Europe '72 is a live triple album by the Grateful Dead, released in November 1972. It covers the band's tour of Western Europe in April and May that year, and showcases live favourites, extended improvisations and several new songs including "Jack Straw" and "Brown Eyed Women". The album was the first to include pianist Keith Godchaux and his wife, Donna Jean Godchaux, and the last to feature founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, who died shortly after its release.

At the start of 1972 the Grateful Dead were on a roll. After struggling for years to reach mainstream success the Dead released two hit albums in 1970, the classics American Beauty and Workingman's Dead. In 1971 the band released their first commercially successful live album, the self-titled album more commonly known as Skull & Roses. The Grateful Dead have had many creative peaks, but perhaps the most famous incarnation is the one that invaded Europe in April of 1972. When the Grateful Dead packed up for their European tour it was like a vacation for them.

The Grateful Dead commemorated their first extended European tour with an extravagant triple-LP set appropriately enough titled Europe '72. This collection is fashioned in much the same way as their previous release - which had also been a live multi-disc affair. With the additional album the band was able to again incorporate some of their exceedingly stretched-out instrumental improvisations - titled "Epilogue" and "Prelude" here. Since their last outing, the group had expanded to include the husband-and-wife team of Keith Godchaux (keyboards) and Donna Jean Godchaux (vocals).
Grateful Dead is an album by rock band the Grateful Dead. Released in October 1971 on Warner Bros. Records, it is their second live double album. Although published without a title, it is generally known by the names Skull and Roses (due to its iconic cover art) and Skull Fuck (the name the band originally wanted to give to the album, which was rejected by the record company).
What a phenomenal album. If you're not a Deadhead or fan of the Dead and you want to start listening to them, Europe 72 and American Beauty are good ways to start. You owe it to yourself to own this album.
