This double album is the ultimate anthology of blues rock guitar genius Stevie Ray Vaughan's brilliant but tragically brief career. With a discography spanning just eight years, the Texas axeman almost single-handedly brought the blues back into the mainstream with searing shuffles like "Pride and Joy" and tender instrumentals like the aqueous "Lenny", which simultaneously channelled Jimi Hendrix and Albert King. And he could make the funk flow when he wanted, as shown by tracks like "Couldn't Stand the Weather".

A new version of Last. The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Overview (current section).
Sound - 9 As expected from a SRV Greatest Hits, the sound quality is high and a typical listener would not be able to find a deviation from the original recordings. The blues-rock fusion master's signiture tracks are all included as well as a few live recordings deemed worthy enough to make it to this album. Tracks such as "Couldn't Stand the Weather" are fresh and innovative even decades after it was first recorded. His rendition of "Little Wing" brings out his unique style and is probably the best example of his solo playing form. It's a standing testiment.
