Aisling Dhorcha, the debut Beithíoch album, is ten years old this month. It's been a strange decade, plenty of failure and plenty of growth as a musician, still I think the best is yet to come. Some reflections: Today the music industry is almost certainly in a worse place than it was ten years ago. There's little metal scene left of any real value.

Ag Stánadh ar Shíoraíocht (Staring at Eternity) 'Aisling Dhorcha' means ‘A Dark Dream Vision’ and is a story about overcoming darkness and the symbolic rebirth of the light. An 'Aisling' is an ancient form of epic poem. In Aisling Dhorcha the story begins with an ancient, terrible voice calling to the protagonist. They follow the voice and fall into a dream, passing into another world - one in which the true darkness of the real world is revealed to them.
BEITHIOCH - Aisling Dhorcha (CD). Ireland Black/Death/Ambient. They have learned the truth of life and death, but it sickens them with a deep fear which they must learn to overcome.

The description 'black metal' might be a bit misleading when it comes to the Irish band Beithíoch and their release Aisling Dhorcha. the Carnal) are well performed and work as a neat contrast to the rest of the album, they actually do not fit into the whole performance. Their sound and atmosphere is different and work rather as a disruption in the flow; which annoys me a bit. Recommended tracks: Oíche Bhithbheo (dark and haunting, minimalist and intense; nice cavernous sound); Arm Na Déithe (the part after the first break/blast segment; very hypnotic and atmospheric), Dornán Talaimh.
