The Avalanches return with their first new album in 16 years. And there are no shortcuts. Throw in the usual long-delayed-album mix of bad equipment, poor health, perfectionism, and clearance issues, and who knows, maybe we’re lucky to get Wildflower, the first new Avalanches record in 16 years. It’s a music business truism that every sample-heavy instrumental act will eventually work with guest vocalists. As satisfying as it can be to assemble new music from old pieces, every producer, deep down, eventually wants to make their own primary source.
Wildflower (The Avalanches album) has been listed as one of the Music good articles under the good article criteria. If you would like to participate, visit the project page.
The Avalanches are an Australian electronic music group formed in Melbourne in 1997. They are known for their two studio albums Since I Left You (2000) and Wildflower (2016), as well as their live and recorded DJ sets. Since I Left You was a critical and commercial success, receiving multiple awards, and has been considered both one of the best albums of the 2000s and best Australian albums of all time. It was followed in 2016 by Wildflower, which also received critical acclaim.
Released July 8, 2016. Wildflower Tracklist. 1. The Leaves Were Falling Lyrics. The album was released to critical acclaim on 1st July 2016, receiving an aggregate score of 83 on Metacritic. The album continues the Plunderphonics sound of Since I Left You and features a psychedelic sound drawing heavily from 60s samples. It contains features from rappers Danny Brown, MF DOOM and Biz Markie as well as country singer Father John Misty. Record Label Modular Recordings.
Wildflower is the second studio album by Australian electronic music group the Avalanches. It was first released on 1 July 2016 on Apple Music and widely on 8 July 2016 by Modular Recordings in Australia, by XL Recordings in the United Kingdom, and by Astralwerks in the United States. The album features multiple guest collaborators providing vocals and live instrumentation across its twenty-one tracks. After the release of their debut album, Since I Left You, the Avalanches continued to produce music and were touring until 2003. At least one track from the album's final cut had begun taking shape in 2000. One of the group's earliest collaborations was with Luke Steele in 2003, creating "tripped out rock 'n' roll" with both.
Is Wildflower the best album of the year? Probably not. But it was made by one of the most influential artists of our generation. To The Avalanches’ many devotees, the alternately wacky and wallpaper nature of these 60 minutes probably won’t matter, and neither will the group’s failure to evolve. Yet for those of us not seduced by absence, fond hearts or nostalgia, ‘Wildflower’ is a faded snapshot of a cosier, very distant-seeming past.

Wildflower began streaming worldwide two years ago today. The music has connected us to people far and wide and for that we are eternally grateful. We are so blessed to be part of this beautiful exchange - after all it is not really 'our' music - we are interpreters and receivers. Love and light, the avalanches.
